Oh, The Places We’ll Go

Library Porn

When I was kid, my mom used to drop me off at libraries and book stores while she ran her errands.

She loved the fact that I could read an entire book between the time she dropped me off and when she picked me up. Cheaper that way.

I think the word you’re looking for is “voracious.”

When I was young, I gobbled up books like they were M&M’s.

The quiet of a library still makes me happy. It brings me peace.

I mean, what can go wrong in a place dedicated to books?

My eternal thanks to Stumble Upon and the nonist. I don’t know what a nonist is and you seem too smart for us to have a conversation that would satisfy either of us (you’d be talking about MOMA and I’d be talking about Mona from Who’s The Boss) but these shots of libraries you so graciously excerpted from Candida Hofer’s book Libraries have made my morning. I tip my ironic, feather-plumed hat to you, sir.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to pick my favorite one. I think I found one of your lovely places.

I’m so happy I found this blog – lordy knows how – but it’s just been such a delight.

I like libraries a great deal, though In New York, they do tend to be full of foot fetishists. I know because someone once asked me if I’d take off my right shoe while I was in Philology. Lucky thing, since my left foot is uglier than my right.

My sister and I used to wait for my mom to pick us up after day camp at the public library next door to the camp. It was one of my favorite places!
